Aniela O.
anielasWhat do you do when things are massively broken? What do you tell Maria whose mom told her that she doesn’t want her? What do you say to a family who just lost everything they had, including their house, in a flood? How do you hug a little boy who won’t let go of your neck because no one else hugs him? What is the right answer to the question, “what will happen after you leave, Aniela?” I have no answers, no solutions, no way of fixing all the brokenness, but I can offer HOPE! And not just any hope, HIS hope. The hope that exists eternally and is backed by the all-powerful! The hope that says, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you” and “I will be with you till the end of the ages” and “I will always love you!” I can offer the Hope that does not disappoint.

“I was thinking about it, Aniela. I was thinking how come I was so blessed to meet you guys. I was thinking that so many others kids never met you and their lives never changed completely like mine did. You see I now hope, I now think I can have a good future and a blessed life. Most of the kids here in Moldova NEVER even fathom that! But I do. I do because you guys told me about a God who will love me forever and who will never forget me and who helps me daily. And so I worked hard in school and got into a university will have a good life because now I hope.”
Olea said this to me a few days ago. We met her in an orphanage in Moldova when she was 11. She’s entering her first year of college this August.

So maybe the tears that stream down my face every year are well founded, and maybe we can never do enough in these two short weeks (on these mission trips) to fix all the brokenness around us. But maybe that is exactly how it is meant to be – so that we may never forget that the changed lives, the miracles, and the wonders that we are blessed to witness are by His might, by His grace, and by His power, and are therefore always perfect, always effective, and always true, regardless of our shortcomings. I am continually amazed by how God beautifully completes all stories! Olea was just one of the MANY who have come back to us to tell how irrevocably their lives have changed because one little word or action which we knew could never be enough. Yet that is what He does, He completes that which can never be enough and turns it into abundance!

To all who prayed for us: THANK YOU! we could not do this without you! It was a wonderful mission trip that broke my heart often and exhausted me physically and mentally, but I could not imagine something else I’d rather be doing in the whole wide world.
